Timber! Danish park uses dynamite to trim tree branches

A worker in an orange high-vis jacket walks under the canopy of a tree with wooden chunks and a fallen branch next to him.

To cut down tree branches that were at risk of falling and injuring passing park visitors, workers in Copenhagen, Denmark, set aside their chainsaws and turned to an unusual option: dynamite. A biologist for the Danish Nature Agency said the breaks left by the controlled explosions carried a much more natural appearance, similar to lightning striking a tree, and would promote biodiversity in the long term as plants and wildlife could make use of the fallen branches.
