Louisiana reports 1st U.S. human death related to H5N1 avian flu

Massive snowball fight brings cheer amid winter storm in U.S. capital

A major winter storm that hit the mid-Atlantic U.S. states on Monday caused federal offices and public schools in Washington, D.C., to shut down for the day. The DC Snowball Fight Association took the opportunity to transform a public park into 'The Great Meridian Chill Battle of 2025,' inviting residents to come out and chuck a few snowballs at each other.

Detroit ended 2024 with about 203 homicides — down 49 from the year before and the fewest in the city since 188 were committed in 1965, said Mayor Mike Duggan.
