Search for hundreds of missing people underway in Chile after wildfires ravage neighbourhoods

Volunteers in central Chile tried to remove charred metal, broken glass and other debris Monday from neighbourhoods devastated by wildfires over the past several days, as officials raised the death toll to 122. Hundreds of people remain missing.

Man trapped inside submerged car by torrential California rain recounts experience and rescue

A resident of Long Beach attempted to drive through a deeper section of water left by torrential rains in California, but his car sputtered to a halt when water surged up under the vehicle and into the muffler. Trapped inside his vehicle as the water level rose, he had to be rescued when firefighters arrived on scene and pulled him out through a window.
