Record high temperature streak ends in Phoenix, Ariz., as mercury finally dips below 43 C

A record string of daily high temperatures over 43.3 C in Phoenix ended Monday as the dangerous heat wave that has suffocated the Southwest since June receded slightly with cooling monsoon rains.
